Smart crosswalk and bike path
The idea of the Smart Crosswalk developed in Hungary is to improve road safety and to protect pedestrians and cyclists.
The protection system uses active sensors to detect people approaching on the pavement or bike path. Flashing of active LED posts installed alongside the road will warn the drivers on any intention to cross by.
In 2017 in the European countries the proportion of fatal accidents at crosswalks and on bike paths has reached or even has exceeded 47%. Our goal is to reduce this rate and make life safer for as many people as possible.

HOW DOES A SMART CROSSWALK WORK?
When the pedestrian reaches the crosswalk, the built-in sensor turns on the LED traffic lights installed next to it, indicating to drivers approaching on the road that someone intends to cross.
After the pedestrians have crossed, the timer circuit turns off the indicator lights of the pole and waits for the next pedestrian to arrive. The system is equipped with a light meter, so they flash more brightly during the day and less brightly at night.
The system can also be complemented with a pole-mounted LED sign to increase safety.
for bike paths:
When the cyclist on the bike path reaches the crossing, the built-in sensor turns on the LED traffic lights installed next to it, indicating to drivers approaching on the road that a cyclist is approaching the bike path.
After the cyclist has passed, the timer circuit turns off the lights on the posts and waits for the next cyclist to arrive. The system is equipped with a light meter, so the poles flash more brightly during the day and less brightly at night.
The system can be complemented with a pole-mounted LED sign to increase safety.
in the real life:
At the end of 2022, we installed three Smart Road System crossing points along the main road No. 71 ordered by the Hungarian Public Road Non-profit Plc. Our accident prevention systems are also in operation at the parking lot of the Watchtower Lookout at the entrance of the city at Lepkesor and at the Sajkod exits.
The displayed SRS Professional systems include a total of 9 LED traffic lights to help you cross busy pedestrian and cyclist sections safely. In parallel, an extra solar power supply installed on 5-metre-high poles will power the traffic cameras in addition to controlling the system. The entire installation process was carried out without any disruption of the pavement.

The benefits of SmartRoad remote monitoring:
The SmartRoad System can be equipped with a remote monitoring application to monitor the status of the system, and by which its settings can be changed.
The whole system is open and can be monitored from a distance.
There is a traceable, up-to-date, hourly traffic statistics on pedestrian and cyclist traffic at the crossing.
Automatic reporting of malfunctions
In case of a malfunction, it automatically alerts to the maintenance staff.
Operational parameters can be changed remotely, saving time and money by eliminating the need for on-site intervention.
The system consists of the following components:
- central control box (containing the electronics, power supply)
- sensor with mounting bracket, which can be installed on the pavement or bike path (e.g., infrared barrier, outdoor camera, Doppler radar, etc.)
- an LED traffic light post installed next to the crossing point, clearly visible from both directions of traffic
- optional additional devices (e.g. LED pedestrian or cycle signs)

- In case of 230V mains: AC 230V 50Hz ±10%
- For solar PV system: DC 12V
- For street lighting network: AC 230V
- Operating temperature: -30°C to +85°C
- LED traffic light pole:
- DC 12V with 5 mm LED source IP65 protection
- Indication: flashing or continuous (at choice)
- Light intensity: controlled (max. 450 lux)
